Ethyl Cellulose Hot Melt Adhesive for Packaging

Adhesives Formulation

Applicable Base Polymer
Applicable Industrial Sectors

Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Ethyl cellulose is available as solvent solutions or as hot melt formulations. The properties can vary considerably with the type of resin used and the adhesive formulation. Good bonds are formed to porous materials, but adhesion on nonporous substrates is not outstanding. Water resistance is only fair. Ethyl cellulose has good toughness at low temperatures and as a result their use as food packaging adhesives is common.

Resulting Properties

Ethyl cellulose adhesives adhere well, forming a tough bond to a variety of materials such as glass, leather, metals, cloth, and some plastics. They provide a relatively strong bond to polar substrates. Ethyl cellulose adhesives age fairly well. The adhesive formulation provided above can be used for manufacturing coatings and heat sealing compounds for food packaging, soap wraps, shelf paper and label coatings.
