Applicable Base Polymer Properties
Waterborne polyvinyl acetate adhesives are one of the most popular base polymers for formulating wood glues. These adhesives provide a low to medium performance, inexpensive adhesive that dries to a relatively rigid, porous material. A typical formulation consists of polyvinyl acetate latex, filler (if greater viscosity is desired), plasticizer (for improved flexibility), and water.
