Resulting Properties
The low viscosity of this adhesive and its fast setting capability provide an excellent adhesive for sealing of boxes, cartons, and paper bags. Waterborne PVOH adhesives for case sealing have good flexibility, low temperature properties and adhesion to coated papers. PVOH adhesives are notable for their low degree of permeability. These adhesives provide a low to medium performance relatively inexpensive adhesive that dries quickly.
In food packaging, polyvinyl alcohol adhesives are FDA approved as an adhesive for indirect food contact. PVOHs are tasteless, odorless and can be used on their own or blended with polyvinyl acetate emulsions for a faster set.
