Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Polysulfide polymers are normally associated with sealants for construction, marine, insulating glass, automotive, and aircraft industries. It is the high concentration of sulfur linkages that provides these products with their unique chemical properties. Polysulfide elastomers exhibit excellent chemical resistance, electrical characteristics, and dimensional stability.

Resulting Properties

The adhesive shown above is a solvent borne adhesive that can be applied to porous substrates. It is specially formulated to have good gasoline resistance and lowered raw material cost. Polysulfide adhesives and sealants have been successful in applications requiring good moisture, solvent and ozone resistance, and good weathering and low temperature properties. However, the chemical linkages that provide these properties also contribute to poor high temperature stability and high compression set because of stress relaxation.
