Additives for water-based applications were the highlight of BYK’s presentation at this year’s European Coatings Show (ECS). One focal product was the new defoamer, BYK-1786.
New BYK-1786 Defoamer for Complicated Application
The new BYK-1786 defoamer, which was presented to the trade specialists, is a defoamer emulsion. The additive removes any micro foam that might appear with complicated application methods such as spray coating (HVLP), airless and airmix applications. This defoamer consists of emulsion of hydrophobic solids and foam-destroying polysiloxanes. This form of delivery enables BYK-1786 to be incorporated more easily and dosed better.
The Defoamer Designed for Different Applications
It is especially recommended for adhesives, sealants, pigmented and non-pigmented architectural coatings, general industrial, anti-corrosion, wood and furniture coatings, floor coatings, care products, and polishes. The additive is VOC and APEO-free and has no impact on transparency, haze, and cratering.
BYK-1786 is an effective, silicone-containing defoamer for aqueous adhesive systems. The additive prevents foam, both during production and during application. BYK-1786 combines an effective defoaming effect with easy incorporation and good compatibility. The product can be used in Ecolabel compliant adhesive formulations.
The additive can be added at any time during production. Sufficiently high shear forces must be applied.
