PUR hot melts with reduced monomer content and which are therefore non-hazardous are in high demand in the automotive industry as well. A new product in the Jowatherm-Reaktant® MR series provides a high-performance PUR solution for a wide variety of 3D lamination processes in the automotive sector.

Laminating Interior Parts of Automotives

For many years, the one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane (PUR) hot melt adhesives of the Jowatherm-Reaktant® product line have proven their worth and been a well-established partner for laminating interior parts in the automotive industry – from instrument panels and center consoles to door panels and pillar trims as well as seats and headliners.

Jowat adhesive for automotives
Since 2002, products with free monomeric isocyanate content higher than 0.1 % have to be labeled with a hazard pictogram. A newly developed adhesive in the Jowatherm-Reaktant® MR series provides a non-hazardous “all-rounder” (less than 0.1 % free monomeric isocyanate) for laminating automotive interiors in 3D processes. It meets a wide range of requirements for modern modular manufacturing and delivers a performance that is comparable to if not better than PUR hot melts that are subject to hazardous material labeling.

The new adhesive is characterized by:
  • High green strength
  • Good creep resistance
  • Low VOC
  • Low FOG values

Very Accurate Application with Low Drop Formation

It can be applied with the application technology established in the industry. Lamination of thin decor materials, in particular, will profit from the newcomer’s excellent spraying performance with a very accurate application pattern and low drop formation. In addition, the adhesive also impresses with minimal stringing at low processing temperatures if applied by roller.

Jowat has successfully developed alternative technologies for the production of non-hazardous PUR hot-melts since the early 2000s. The Jowatherm-Reaktant® MR series with its monomer-reduced adhesives once more demonstrates the leading know-how in PUR technology. In addition, the enterprise prides itself in close customer contact and a strong dependability in the supply chain facilitated by the production of PUR adhesives in its own global manufacturing locations in America, Asia, and Europe – for maximum efficiency and process reliability.
