Dipropylene glycol DME by Clariant is a hygroscopic dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether. Exhibits chemical stability, absence of reactive groups and low toxicity. It is not listed as a hazardous air pollutant and offers an alternative to solvents being phased out as a result of the Clean Air Act. It is a colorless liquid with a mild, pleasant odor. It is completely miscible with most common organic solvents and has limited solubility in water. It forms an azeotrope with water (38% Dipropylene glycol DME and 62% water). It is used as an environmentally friendly replacement for NMP (N-methyl pyrrolidone). Dipropylene glycol DME is designed for use as a coalescing agent or as solvent for polyurethane/isocyanate prepolymer in 2c-PUDs.
