Alternatives to conventional solvents and other VOCs that are employed in waterborne adhesive formulations are discussed in this article. The primary focus is on coalescing agents or co-solvents which are present in minor concentrations, but as a whole can significantly contribute to environmental issues. The formulator’s goal is to achieve the properties required for the end-product without VOCs in the formulation.
