Dynasylan® Organofunctional silanes can be used in various end use applications such as:
Construction
Civil Engineering has extensively used Adhesives and Sealants as alternatives to traditional joining methods.
 |
For Construction applications, Adhesives and Sealants are expected to meet the following objectives:
- Simplify surface preparation to builders
- Provide high resistance to temperature and climatic variations
|
Dynasylan® Silanes can help to reach these objectives by providing the following benefits:
- Ease the bonding of dissimilar materials
- Contribute to solve surface preparation issues
- Enhance ageing resistance even in harsh conditions
Also for DIY applications, silanes give in e.g. repair adhesives the right "tack". Environmentally friendly and green adhesives can easily be formulated by using the right VOC reduced silane additive.

Transportation
One of the key challenges today for transportation OEMs is to reduce weight with the main objective to optimize the consumption of energy during use. To that purpose, this industry has seen the emergency of new types of joining methods and a large variety of materials (plastics, composites, etc.) that can be difficult to bond.
 |
When used in Transportation applications, Adhesives and Sealants have to exhibit the following performance:
- Excellent mechanical performance with high resistance to vibrations
- Good resistance to temperature and climatic variations
- Versatility towards the different types of materials to be bonded
|
Dynasylan® Silanes when added to the Adhesive or Sealant formulations can provide the following benefits:
- Contribute to solve surface preparation issues
- Provide superior wet and dry adhesion
- Enhance mechanical performance
- Ease bonding of dissimilar materials
- Provide resistance to chemicals, heat and moisture over time
Underbody sealers
 |
|
Underbody sealers are widely used for underbody protection against corrosion for motor vehicles.
Underbody sealers consist mainly of PVC-plastisols or PMMA-plastisols. They are applied by airless-spray guns and cure at temperatures of 130 °C to 140 °C.
Dynasylan® MTMO, a mercaptofunctional silane, enhances the adhesion of the PVC-plastisols to the sheet metals.
|
Windows/Windshields
 |
|
An important application for sealants in the automotive industry is the window glass segment for the direct sealing of windshields and side windows. Windshield sealants were introduced to the automotive industry in the 1970s, and remain standard practice today. Polyurethane sealants are used for this application.
Dynasylan® GLYMO, an epoxy silane, is an ideal adhesion promoter for polyurethane windshield sealants. Finally, Dynasylan® 1124, which is a secondary aminosilane, is used successfully as high performance additive for polyurethanes primers

Dynasylan® for windmill bonding pastes
Large quantities of bonding pastes are used in the manufacturing of wind turbine rotor blades. The normal production procedure is to manufacture the upper and lower shell of the rotor blade shell in separate moulds and glue them together by the bonding pastes. These bonding pastes must have good thixotropic and specific slump properties.
Several Dynasylan® Organo-functional silanes can act as adhesion promoters in bonding pastes, and further improve the crosslinking density of suitable bonding pastes:

Dynasylan® for Glass fibers
Glass fiber products, such as endless glass fibers, chopped strands, mats, rovings, yarns and milled glass fiber are used as reinforcing materials in thermoplastics and resins. Natural glass fiber shows poor adhesion to polymers, especially in the presence of moisture. For this reason, the glass surface is made organophilic by a sizing or finishing treatment.
Dynasylan® products are essential components in sizing or finishing and positively affect the following properties:
- Transmission of glass fiber strength to the polymer
- Improvement of adhesion
- Minimization of moisture sensitivity
- Mechanical protection of glass fibers
Depending on the polymer to bond, various Dynasylan® grades can be used for glass fibers:

- Bonding of loudspeakers
- Fixing of SMD components
- Casting electronic parts inside a safety sensor
- Contacting of flip chips for smart card modules
|
Electronic packaging materials
 |
Electronic packaging refers to the enclosure of integrated circuit chips, passive devices, the fabrication of circuit cards and the production of a final product or system.
|
EMC - Epoxy molding compounds
Epoxy molding compounds are widely used to encapsulate semiconductor devices due to superior properties such as high mechanical strength and high productivity.
 |
Basically, epoxy molding compounds are solid epoxy polymers that are heated to a liquid and then injected over a circuit for protection.
|
Surface mounted device electronic adhesives
 |
Surface mounted device electronic adhesives play an important role in the mounting of circuit boards with subsequent soldering. They attach the electronic devices to the circuit board before the completed circuit boards are flipped for immersion in the soldering bath.
The adhesive is dispensed from a cartridge; this requires the adhesive to have a suitable drop profile. The drop profile of the adhesive is defined by the thixotropy, or viscosity in a resting state, and the surface tension. Both epoxy resin and acrylate-based adhesives are available for use as SMD adhesives.

Aerospace
A large number of different adhesive and sealant systems have gained significance in the aerospace industry. Some examples of some important applications requiring adhesives and sealants are the bonding and sealing of cockpits, fuel tanks, pressurized cabins, and the embedding of electronic components.
Adhesives and sealants based on epoxy resins, methacrylates, polysulfides and silicones are used to seal cockpits and window panes. Epoxy structural adhesives are typically used for cobonded wing and tail structures.
Sealants are used to seal joints or entire inside walls of fuel tanks. The sealants used for fuel tanks are based on polysulfide polymers, epoxy resins, or silicones. Sealants are also required in the aerospace industry to seal cabins, which have to withstand high pressure.
Potting compounds and adhesives systems on polyurethanes, silicones or epoxy resins are additionally used to encapsulate and protect electronic components.
Finally, adhesives and sealants based on cyanacrylates, methacrylates, or epoxy resin are also used to prevent corrosion.
