Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Desmocap 12A is a linear aromatic urethane polymer with ether groups. Desmocap 12A can be considered as a flexibilizer for epoxy resins. The joint reaction with polyamines ensures the incorporation of the polyether urethane in the system. A particular advantage of Desmocap 12A is the relatively low viscosity of the solvent free product. This formulation demonstrates the flexibilizing effect of Desmocap 12A when used in combination with an unmodified liquid epoxy resin.

Resulting Properties

Epoxy urethane adhesives provide properties when cured that are similar to epoxy-nylons except they provide a major improvement in moisture resistance. Isocyanate monomers and prepolymers will react with the hydroxyl groups on epoxy resins to give tough, flexible hybrids. These adhesives have been noted for their excellent adhesion to many high-energy plastic substrates and for their propensity to bond to oily metal substrates.
