Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Polymer additives generally consist of very small polymer particles (0.05 to 5 μm in diameter). These additives also will have an effect on the resulting properties of the mortar or concrete. Most commercial polymer latexes for polymer-modified cements contain antifoaming agents, and generally can be used without the addition of antifoaming agents during mixing. Bermocoll PAD 2 is modified cellulose ether that improves adhesion to polystyrene. It is based on polystyrene modified methyl ethyl hydoxyethyl cellulose.

Resulting Properties

Polymer additives are generally added to mortar or concrete materials before or during mixing for the purpose of improving workability or physical properties once the mixture sets. Bermocoll PAD 2 operates as a functional additive combining properties of water retention for workability and a new technology anchor, resulting in strong growth at the micro-scale as the cement hydrates on the surface of the polystyrene. Bermocoll is recommended as an adhesive mortar. It does not provide added flexibility as polyvinyl copolymer additives. The source of this Cement-based Mortar for Polystyrene Foam is AkzoNobel.
