Resulting Properties
The table above provides a typical starting formulation for a general-purpose pressure sensitive adhesive for attaching labels. It is typically used for labels made of polymeric film that are used in packaging applications. The delayed-tack property provides an adhesive that does not require a release liner. When activated (heated) the label can be bonded to the substrate by applying slight pressure.
The adhesive coating must be dried at room temperature below the melting point of the plasticizer in order to obtain a tack-free surface. When activated (heated to a temperature above the melting point of the plasticizer), the coating becomes tackified. In this condition the label can be bonded to the substrate by applying slight pressure.
