Resulting Properties
A typical polyvinyl acetate sealant formulation is shown above. This is the type of product that is commonly used for tube and tile caulk. It is white and has relatively low shrinkage.
Polyvinyl acetate-based systems are generally used for interior applications. Their advantages include ease of application, water clean-up, paintability, and good adhesion to most substrates. Disadvantages are low movement capability, high modulus, and shrinkage on curing. Polyvinyl acetate sealants have a modulus that is very temperature sensitive. Thus, these materials are rather weak and pliable at elevated temperatures, and hard and brittle at lower temperatures
