SBR Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesive by Lion Elastomers

Adhesives Formulation

Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Styrene butadiene rubber high-quality elastomers are often combined with natural rubber to make solvent-based adhesives for masking tapes, labels, cloth tapes, and duct tape. They offer:

  • Cost-effective tack,
  • Shear and peel strength performance

…where UV resistance is not required.

They are manufactured with a consistent molecular weight and viscosity, which enables formulators to achieve a consistent formulation. The above formulation is for a solid (solventless) hot melt adhesive.

Resulting Properties

Linear, non-crosslinked SBR polymers are the technologies of choice when a good balance of adhesion, cohesion, and tack is required. The butadiene in both materials stiffens as it ages to offset the rubber’s softening over time. These light-colored, low-gel polymers are suitable for general-purpose pressure-sensitive adhesives or as laminating adhesives.

This formulation has somewhat higher holding power than comparative resins and good melt stability upon aging.
