Solvent – Acrylonitrile Butadiene Adhesive for Plastic Sheet Repair

Adhesives Formulation

Applicable Type
Applicable Industrial Sectors

Applicable Base Polymer Properties

This adhesive reacts primarily by solvent diffusion into the plastic substrate or by its pressure sensitive (tacky) nature.

Acrylonitrile butadiene or nitrile adhesives are the most versatile of the general purpose rubber types, but they are less popular than neoprene based adhesives. Nitrile rubber elastomers are commonly used as solvent based adhesives and sealants.

Nitrile adhesives are used to bond vinyl, other elastomers, and fabrics where good wear, oil and water resistance are important. Nitrile adhesives are also good for bonding vulcanized and unvulcanized rubbers to various surfaces.

Resulting Properties

The adhesive derived from this formulation can be applied as a solvent adhesive with the bond made through diffusion of solvent into the substrates. A bond can also be made by partially drying the adhesive (removal of solvent) to a tacky state and then the adhesive is applied similar to a contact or pressure sensitive adhesive.

Excellent bonds are also claimed when the adhesive is used as an underwater application (contact or pressure sensitive type).
