Applicable Base Polymer Properties
Butyl rubber is an elastomeric polymer that is used in a wide variety of construction sealants. Because of its unique properties it also is used in the automotive and food processing industries among others. It is used widely as a hot melt, solvent solution, preformed tape or gasket, and as a gun-dispensable sealant.
Chlorobutyl rubber is an isobutylene-isoprene copolymer derived from reacting butyl rubber with chlorine. Chlorobutyl rubber offers a range of polymer viscosities and cure responses through adjustments in functionality and additives content. Compared with regular butyl rubber, chlorobutyl rubber provides an improved compression set and better resistance to heat, ozone and flex fatigue.
