Styrene block copolymers (SBCs) offer cohesion, strength, and heat resistance for both adhesives and sealants. The styrene phase forms a physically crosslinked network within the adhesive at room temperature. Of the SBCs, styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) has the highest shear strength and moderately good peel strength. Styrene butadiene styrene copolymer based adhesives develop excellent cohesive strength / tack balance, and offers reduced viscosity.

Resulting Properties

Spiral Sprayable Solventless SBS Hot Melt Adhesive by Cray Valley offers reduced melt viscosity for excellent spiral spray application. It also offers superior cohesion and adhesion balance to a wide range of substrates. SBS based adhesives have a good combination of low cost, adhesion, physical properties, and processing characteristics.

When adhering non-woven polyethylene to polyethylene film, formulations based on Wingtack STS showed no “strike-through.” The odor of the adhesive using Wingtack STS was exceptionally low competitive resins contribute unacceptably high odor.
