Applicable Base Polymer Properties
Polyvinyl acetate adhesives and sealants have the same base latex resin that is used in wood glues. These adhesives provide a low performance, inexpensive coating that dries to a hard, rigid seal. A typical adhesive formulation consists of polyvinyl acetate latex, filler, plasticizer (for improved flexibility), and water. Since these products set by evaporation, their shrinkage is greater than solventless systems such as polyurethane.
