Adhesives Research, Inc. Offers Two New Hydrophilic Heat Seal Tape Products for In-Vitro Diagnostics

Published on 2004-06-28. Author : SpecialChem

Adhesives Research, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of custom pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes, coatings and specialty film products for the medical diagnostics industry, introduces ARflow® 90128 and ARflow® 90119, two hydrophilic heat-seal adhesive tapes with dual functionality for bonding components and wicking biological fluids in in-vitro diagnostic medical devices.

ARflow® 90128 is a clear, 5-mil plastic film coated on one side with a hydrophilic, heat-sealable adhesive protected by a polyester liner. ARflow® 90119 is a clear, 2-mil plastic film also coated on one side with a hydrophilic, heat-sealable adhesive that is protected by a polyethylene liner. The hydrophilic properties of these products reduce the surface tension of fluids (water, urine or blood), allowing for rapid flow of fluids from the inlet area to a remote reagent site of an in-vitro diagnostic device. The adhesive coatings on these two products provide several key benefits including: reduced analysis time and the more efficient transport of fluids while requiring smaller sample volumes, which can facilitate the use of alternative collection sites for increased patient comfort.

The heat-sealable adhesive coating bonds to a variety of polymeric substrates such as polystyrene, polyester and polycarbonate. The adhesive used in ARflow® 90128 and ARflow® 90119 is compatible with most lateral flow assays and its hydrophilic properties remain stable over a wide range of temperatures and relative humidity. The dual functionality of these two products offers IVD manufacturers more efficient manufacturing processes with the potential for reduced product cost.

The ARflow® family of hydrophilic flow technology includes coatings, pressure-sensitive adhesives and heat-sealable adhesive tapes for use in diagnostic devices such as blood coagulation monitoring, blood glucose and point-of-care tests, as well as biotechnology applications and environmental test kits. Adhesives Research can customize hydrophilics with a combination of adhesive properties, including double-coated tapes with a hydrophilic coating on one side and a pressure-sensitive or heat-sealable coating on the reverse side, and in single-coated options providing both hydrophilic and bonding attributes. The coat weight of the adhesive can also be easily customized.

In addition to medical applications, Adhesives Research’s PSAs are used around the world in the pharmaceutical/ transdermal, consumer, electronics, display, automotive, construction, and pulp and paper industries. Founded in 1961, Adhesives Research offers problem-solving capabilities and custom solutions in adhesive polymerization, mixing and adhesive coating, and release liner design supported by extensive product development and analytical support. Both the Company’s North America facility in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, and facility in Limerick, Ireland are certified to the updated ISO 9001:2000 standard.

Based in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, Adhesives Research, Inc. also operates manufacturing facilities in Ireland, Australia and Colombia, has sales and marketing offices in Great Britain, Germany and Singapore, and sales representation in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
