Ashland's new barrier coat provides finish protection for boat builders

DUBLIN, Ohio -- A new barrier coat for professional boat builders from Ashland Composite Polymers, a business group of Ashland Performance Materials, a division of Ashland Inc. (NYSE:ASH), provides an excellent surface profile and superior blister protection using standard gelcoat spray equipment. AME® VPRO-012 barrier coat is formulated from Ashland's world-leading epoxy vinyl ester technology for above or below the waterline use.

AME VPRO-012 barrier coat provides a layer of protection to composite boat decks and hulls between the gelcoat and the laminate. "Adding AME VPRO-012 barrier coat to our successful AME product portfolio helps professional boat builders achieve the sought-after surface cosmetics required by discerning marine customers," said Mike Wallenhorst, global marine market manager for Ashland Composite Polymers.

AME VPRO-012 barrier coat can be applied with equipment that is readily available in typical boat shops and can be used as soon as the gelcoat "gels," for a wet-on-wet application. AME VPRO-012 barrier coat maintains the integrity of the laminate flexibility and is compliant with the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) for air quality standards.
