BASF appoints Dr. Uwe Liebelt as GVP for its Acrylics and Dispersions business in North America

CHARLOTTE, NC -- BASF has named Dr. Uwe Liebelt Group Vice President of the company's Acrylics and Dispersions business in North America based in Charlotte, North Carolina, effective September 1, 2008. He replaces Cenan Ozmeral who retired at the end of August. In his new assignment, Liebelt is responsible for BASF's global Kaolin clay business, as well as BASF's acrylics and dispersions businesses in North America.

The BASF acrylics and dispersions businesses in North America include all-acrylic, styrene-acrylic and styrene-butadiene latex products used in the manufacture of adhesives, architectural coatings, carpet backing, nonwovens, paper and paperboard products, construction mastics, thin sets and adhesives, elastomeric roof coatings, as well as for the modification of asphalt and concrete for greater durability. Major dispersion product lines include Acronal®, Acronal Optive®, Butonal®, Butofan®, Styronal® and Styrofan®.

BASF specialty kaolins improve performance, lower costs, increase efficiency, and enhance the value of customer products and processes in the plastics, rubber, ink, cosmetics, ceramics, adhesives, paints and many other industries. Major product lines include Satintone®, ASP® , Translink® , Ultrex® , and MetaMax®.

Liebelt joined BASF in 1996. Following various positions in research, operations and controlling, he served as Director Controlling and Strategy for BASF's global Acrylics and Dispersions division between 2003 and 2005. In 2005, he was promoted to Vice President for the Inorganics Business Unit in North America.

Liebelt obtained a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Paderborn, Germany, and a doctorate in chemical engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany.
