BASF’s coating pilot plants help customers optimize production

Manufacturers of self-adhesive products such as adhesive tapes or labels can now test ways to optimize their manufacturing processes and output using BASF's two new, ultra-modern coating pilot plants. The company offers its customers in North America and around the globe access to the line for aqueous pressure sensitive adhesives with a maximum speed of up to 5,000 feet per minute, and to a UV-curable hot melt adhesive coating line operating at a speed of up to 2,300 feet per minute.

"We are more flexible now," Heidi Alderman, the new Director of BASF's North American Polymers business, said. "We can vary the interaction between coating head, machine speed, carrier and pressure sensitive adhesive to a greater extent than ever before. In addition, development and commercialization time lines will be significantly reduced as a result of experience gained and information developed using this new equipment."
