Bayer Polymers Appoints Air Products as Global Distributor for Excess TDI Intermediates

Bayer Polymers has appointed Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Allentown, Pa., as its global distributor for excess toluenediisocyanate (TDI) intermediates.

With the start-up of its new dinitrotoluene (DNT) and toluenediamine (TDA) manufacturing facility in Dormagen, Germany, this year, Bayer expects to have the intermediate capacity production of TDI in Europe and the U. S. in excess of what it currently requires. So, the company has decided to establish a formal relationship with Air Products to market and distribute the surplus products.

Guenther Weymans, Head of Global TDI Operations for Bayer Polymers, said "Air Products is a leading supplier of DNT and TDA to the polyurethane industry". "Their market knowledge and global supply network were key in our decision to market our excess products through them," Weymans continued. "Bayer has had a long and positive business relationship with Air Products and we look forward to supplying their TDI intermediate needs."

Bayer Corporation, headquartered in Pittsburgh, is the U.S. holding company of the worldwide Bayer Group, an international health care and chemicals group based in Leverkusen, Germany. Bayer employs 24,600 in North America with net North American sales of 8.9 billion Euros in 2002. Bayer's five operating companies -- CropScience, Chemicals, HealthCare, Polymers and Pharmaceuticals -- produce a broad range of products that help diagnose and treat diseases, purify water, preserve local landmarks, protect crops, advance automobile safety and durability and improve people's lives.
