covestro-laboratory-chemicals Covestro has expanded its capabilities in Mexico with the opening of its new customer support laboratory for the Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties (CAS) business unit. This lab will provide enhanced customer service, local support and technical expertise for the company’s fourth largest market worldwide and strengthen the company’s presence in Latin America.

Advancing PU Adhesives for Easy Adhesion

The CAS business develops and provides raw materials that add value to the end product, improving its performance, appearance and durability. Covestro materials are used in a range of applications including wind turbines, transportation, construction, furniture, cosmetics and healthcare.

Covestro aims to work closer with its customers in Mexico to further innovation and develop customized solutions for several market sectors. For example, in the adhesives segment, it envisions widening its support for the furniture market, as well as the footwear industry for which Covestro supplies polyurethane adhesives for easier adhesion of footwear soles.

Technical Support for CAS Formulations

“The opening of this new laboratory demonstrates our commitment to innovation. We will provide a wide range of solutions like water-based paint optimization, selection of coating hardeners with a carbon base mainly derived from renewable raw materials, low monomer content that meets international standards and any application challenges faced by our customers,” said Ivan Castillo, CAS Mexico country representative, Covestro.

The new laboratory expands the current support capacities of the North American region and is focused on providing faster service to local customers. The lab will provide technical support for a wide range of coating, sealant and adhesive formulations.

Exploring New Market Opportunities

“As our business in this region grows, we want to explore new market opportunities. Now, we have additional resources to support our growth strategy in Mexico. We aim to strengthen our market footprint with solutions that provide customers with productivity, efficiency and sustainability improvements,” said Ivan Castillo, chemical engineer, Covestro.

The new lab supports Covestro’s growth strategy in Mexico, which includes the implementation of a fourth production line in the Santa Clara plant located in Ecatepec, Mexico, where polyurethane and CAS material solutions are produced. Globally, the CAS business unit accounts for almost 16% of Covestro’s total sales.
