Evolution of Acrylic Adhesives

The Advanced Metals & Materials seminar will be presented by John E. Hill, Principal Scientist at LORD Corporation, on Nov. 18 at 10:30am in Room N205-N206. “New Developments in Next-Generation Acrylic Adhesive Technology” will cover the beginnings of “first-generation” acrylic adhesives, the advancements to “second-generation” acrylic adhesives and the evolution to “next-generation” acrylic adhesives.

Properties of Acrylic Adhesives

  • Improved performance for more demanding applications.
  • Improved elongation
  • Iimproved impact and fatigue resistance
  • Excellent high- and low-temperature performance
  • Robust bonding to a wider variety of substrates

The adhesive’s non-toxic formulation makes them REACH-compliant for global use. As a replacement for welding and riveting, acrylic adhesives can be used in bonding applications in the automotive, truck/trailer and enclosure industries.

Hill’s presentation will feature three applications examples for next-generation acrylic adhesives: a utility truck bed assembly, a wind tower assembly and an elevator assembly.
