Once the merger takes place, the company would break into two or three businesses. The deal is not confirmed because of regulatory and other issues.

The combined capitalization of the companies will be somewhere around USD 120 billion. The transaction would combine two of the known names in US Chemical Industry and form second biggest chemical company.

2015 has been a thunderous one for DuPont, whose former CEO Ellen Kullman stepped down in October and Edward Breen stepped in to run DuPont Co. in October, Andrew Liveris, longtime head of Dow Chemical Co., called with a proposal as he saw an opportunity for the merger he was looking forward.

Based on the market values of Dow and DuPont, a merger would probably rank among the five largest deals announced in 2015, as per the data compiled by WSJ.
