Dow Corning Corporation, a leading supplier of silicones to the pressure sensitive industry, shared the stage with other key industry leaders in a recent technology road show entitled "Innovation and Growth in the Asian Pressure Sensitive Market." The show toured in October and November with stops in Shanghai and Guangzhou, China, and Bangkok, Thailand. The other presenters included ExxonMobil Chemical, Kroenert/BMB and UPM.

"There is a high demand for technical information in the Asian market. This consolidated effort provides an opportunity for these key global industry leaders to definitively underline their commitment to the Chinese and Asian markets," said Luc Dusart, global marketing manager for Dow Corning Pressure Sensitive Industry. "Together, Dow Corning and the other participants represent decades of technical expertise and success to this industry."

"It is a unique experience that four leading suppliers are able to develop a program that provides value to the customer, yet allows each company to focus on their individual skills and capabilities. It reflects a way to do business differently in the future," said Heikki Hyvarinen, new marketing manager at UPM.

The complimentary touring seminar offered professionals in the pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) industry a unique opportunity to get updates on the latest technological developments. Seminar participants learned about a wide range of topics including:

  • Recent advances in silicone release coating technology (Dow Corning)
  • The innovations in glassine backing and facestock (UPM)
  • Performances of PSA, specifically hot melt PSA (ExxonMobil Chemical)
  • The latest coating techniques and coating equipment (Kroenert/BMB)

All the seminars were well attended, attesting to the Asian label market's high level of interest in new technologies. The Shanghai event had 70 participants, 80 people attended in Guangzhou and the Bangkok seminar brought in 60 industry professionals.

"In a fast growing Asian label market, this seminar was a perfect opportunity for label customers to learn about the benefits of hot melt technology. It offers high formulation flexibility, aggressive tack, fast pick up on equipment, resistance to humidity, and a broad range of applications and service temperatures," said Jean-Pierre Forey, global marketing manager for the Adhesion Industry Business Unit, ExxonMobil Chemical.

According to Jenny Geng, Asia marketing manager for Dow Corning Pressure Sensitive Industry, the cooperative effort needed to organize this type of event represents the desire of these key global industry leaders to share information with the Asian community. "All four companies believe strongly in Asia's huge growth potential in the PSA industry. We look forward to close co-operation with our Asian customers and developing long-term business relationships based on trust and creativity," she said.
