Published on 2010-06-23. Author : SpecialChem

Dow Formulated Systems, a global business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), will introduce its latest series of advanced solutions at the Wind Power Asia seminar, which will be held in the afternoon of June 23 at China National Convention Center, Beijing.

At the seminar, Dow will proudly introduce COMPAXX™ Foams - a core material in the composite construction of wind blades that possesses unique performance including lightweight associated with excellent static and dynamic mechanical strength. When blade design conditions allow, COMPAXX™ Foams can effectively replace PVC foams, reducing production costs while improving the mechanical performance of the wind blades.

Dow will also introduce AIRSTONE™ Latent Mold Building Systems - a new series of advanced solution that comprises the new AIRSTONE™ 715H Hardener and AIRSTONE™ 329E & 710E Epoxy Resins. It is designed to provide long pot-life and very low exotherm characteristics that allow easier, faster and more robust mold production process -- for both infusion and prepreg molding processes. Both COMPAXX™ Foams and AIRSTONE™ Systems are products and solutions based on verified technology and innovative chemistry with characteristics and performance that make them ideal for use in fabrication of wind blades.

Launching the new AIRSTONE™ and COMPAXX™ Foams series of products and solutions in Wind Power Asia, is part of our continuous efforts to introduce advanced solutions that help manufacturers to enhance their wind blade quality and longevity. In line with the business commitment to help its China customers to succeed, Dow Formulated Systems has started supplying AIRSTONE™ Systems from its newly built bulk facility in Tianjin by April this year.

"The Tianjin bulk facility is a new investment tailored to provide customers in China with local supply and fast local delivery, consistent product quality and high service standard," said Kenneth Chan, Asia Pacific Commercial Director for the Alternative Energy & Composites business of Dow Formulated Systems. "the Tianjin bulk facility compliments our manufacturing plant in Wuhan which offers full range of products for the wind industry, including adhesives, hand-wet layup, and infusion systems."

The Wuhan plant is officially named under the Dow Formulated Systems business starting the second quarter this year. "With the Wuhan manufacturing plant, Tianjin logistic hub and the Shanghai warehouse in place, coupled with our wind service and support team in the Dow Shanghai Center; we are well positioned to support and to grow with customers in the region," Chan added.
