Dow's UCAR Emulsion Systems Announces Price Increases for Emulsion Products and Rheology Modifiers

Published on 2004-11-30. Author : SpecialChem

UCAR Emulsion Systems, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is increasing the list and off-list prices on its emulsion products and rheology modifiers and is adjusting package pricing differentials.

Effective January 1, 2005, for all customers UES will increase the price of vinyl acrylic and NEOCAR™ latexes by $0.05/wet lb and will increase the price for acrylic, styrene acrylic, styrene butadiene, NEOCAR acrylics and UCAR™ POLYPHOBE™ rheology modifiers by $0.06 /wet lb.

These increases, which will affect all market segments, including architectural and industrial coatings, adhesives and sealants, are driven by the continuing escalation in oil, energy, hydrocarbon feedstock and transportation costs. These cost increases are complicated by availability issues for many crucial raw materials used in our markets. UES will continue in its efforts to mitigate the impact of these higher costs with a goal of maintaining reliable supply to our customers.

In addition, all full truckload package price differentials for drum and tote shipments will be increasing to $0.15/wet lb over the bulk delivered price. This change is necessitated by increases in the cost of plastic and steel packaging, labor, warehousing and freight. UES package price differentials have not changed for over ten years while costs have continued to climb. Customers interested in learning more about the price increases should contact their local Dow sales representatives.

The UCAR Emulsion Systems business manufactures and markets emulsions for architectural and industrial coatings as well as for building products, textiles, traffic paint and adhesives. UCAR and NEOCAR latexes, and UCAR POLYPHOBE rheology modifiers can be formulated into a wide variety of products to enhance performance properties. UES operates at 13 production facilities globally, including five operating in North America.
