Published on 2002-10-16. Author : SpecialChem

DuPont officially opened its first DuPont Engineering Polymers Technical Center in China. In line with the customer-focused development direction now prevailing in the plastics industry, the center in Shenzhen will support customers' R&D activities in China. It will enable them to become more competitive by resolving technical issues, enhancing their existing products and bringing new ones to the market more quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.

DuPont began constructing the center in September 2001. Terry said: "It is the company's eighth Engineering Polymers Technical Center worldwide, and the first in China. The centers form a global R&D network, collaborating with each another to resolve customers' processing problems and offer them the most appropriate solutions for almost every aspect of their products, from the design concept and application idea up to their final appearance."

Shenzhen Vice Mayor Li De Cheng was a guest at the traditional Chinese ceremony held to open the center. Others who attended the event included Terry Caloghiris, vice president & general manager of DuPont Engineering Polymers, and DuPont China Holding Co. Ltd. President Charlie Browne.

The Shenzhen center's services range from assessing material characteristics and identification, failure analysis, material selection, technical training, application development and improvement and technology transfer, through to mold evaluation and pilot production. Components can also be tested and analyzed to locate production defects and enhance quality. All of these services help customers optimize their production processes.
