CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH -- Emerald Kalama Chemical, a division of Emerald Performance Materials, has completed a 25 percent capacity expansion for its K-FLEX® production unit at its Kalama, WA facility. K-FLEX plasticizers and coalescents are used in adhesives, PVC compounds, coatings and other latex polymer applications. In these applications, K-FLEX products are non-phthalate, low-VOC materials known for enhancing film formation, adhesion, processing characteristics and improving the resistance of the end-product to oil, grease and water.

"We have made a concerted effort over the last 24 months to expand the technology base of our K-FLEX product line," said Shamsi Gravel, product line manager for The Americas. "The success of new products, such as K-FLEX 850S, has fueled the need for our most recent expansion."

"Our K-FLEX product line has been identified as one of the key growth platforms for Emerald Kalama Chemical," said Edward T. Gotch, president of Emerald Kalama Chemical. "Our company made a multi-million-dollar commitment this year to invest in key projects to accelerate the growth of this important product platform."

Emerald Kalama Chemical also produces sodium and potassium benzoate, benzoic acid and intermediates, and specialty flavor and fragrance ingredients, which the company sells globally through its distribution partners. The business has manufacturing operations in Kalama, WA and in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Emerald Kalama Chemical products are used in a range of applications from beverage preservatives to personal care and household products, as well as industrial applications.
