Engelhard to implement energy surcharge for specialty Kaolin-based products

Published on 2003-04-07. Author : SpecialChem

Engelhard Corporation announced that it is enacting an energy surcharge on specialty kaolin-based pigments for industrial markets, including coatings, inks, adhesives, plastics, and rubber, among other industries.

The surcharge will be $3.00 per short ton for hydrous slurry products, $6.00 for hydrous dry products and $18.00 for calcined and calcined, silane-treated grades. The surcharge will be effective for orders confirmed and shipped on or after April 7, 2003.

"This action was necessitated by the dramatic and unexpected surge in natural gas prices which has impacted our manufacturing costs," said Stephen D. Lux, group vice president and general manager of Engelhard's Appearance and Performance Technologies. "We need to take this action to ensure that we continue to meet our customers' current and future needs for kaolin-based pigments."
