Fear the Foam No More: DAP® Announces a Breakthrough in Foam Sealant Technology

Published on 2004-08-10. Author : SpecialChem

Baltimore, MD -- DAP's new DAPtex® Plus Window & Door Foam Sealant with CoVinyl-X9000 is a technological breakthrough in foam sealants. It is the first user-friendly foam sealant with the advantages of polyurethane foam, but none of the application issues.

This remarkable new latex-based foam sealant is the result of more than two years of research by the DAP technology center. The technological breakthrough involves a special package of ingredients, known as CoVinyl-X9000, that gives DAPtex® Plus its added strength, toughness and durability.

Like window & door polyurethane foam, DAPtex® Plus's performance meets the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) standards for windows and doors regarding resistance to air and water infiltration. However, unlike polyurethane foam, there is no worry about getting DAPtex Plus off of surfaces or skin because it cleans up with soap and water. DAPtex Plus is toolable, so it is easy to work with and there is no need for cutting or sawing when cured unlike polyurethane. And best of all, with DAPtex Plus you don't have to worry about overfilling cavities or overexpansion, so even novice users can have a great window or door installation first time, every time.

"Research shows that the number one use of foam sealants is in the installation of windows and doors," said David Fuller, Vice President of Marketing. "Window and door installations have to withstand the effects of storms including the effect of wind driven rain, so toughness and durability are important. But user dissatisfaction with polyurethane has kept us looking for a latex-based product that can handle the AAMA standards, and DAPtex Plus does just that."

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) standards for windows and doors are included in the AAMA 101. This standard involves windows and doors being tested for air infiltration using ASTM E328 and for water infiltration using ASTM E 547 and E 331. DAPtex Plus was tested and conformed to these standards, making its performance as good as any foam on the market with many consumer-preferred benefits.

DAPtex Plus comes in 12 ounce cans and will be available beginning in August at home centers and hardware stores for between $5.00 and $7.49.
