Hexcel Launches Epoxy Based HexPly® M91 for Airframe Primary Structures

Hexcel has supplied prepregs, fabrics, resins, honeycombs and adhesives to the Indian aerospace industry for many years to a broad base of customers including Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), National Aerospace Lab (NAL), Indian Space Research Organisation, TATA Advanced Materials and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.

At Aero India Hexcel displayed the latest developments for the aerospace industry including products for civil aircraft, helicopters and satellites. Such as Hexcel's carbon fibre range including NEW HexTow® IM10 an industry breakthrough with the highest commercially available tensile strength. Also HexTow® IM7, qualified for the world's most advanced commercial and military aerospace programs. HexTow® IM8 which has been reintroduced with 20% higher tensile strength, ideal for aerospace and industrial applications. HexTow® AS4 with proven aerospace performance and an extensive qualification database.

The product innovations from Hexcel's Fibers R&T group have been matched by complementary developments from the Matrix group, which has led to the launch of HexPly® M91. This new generation epoxy prepreg for airframe primary structures and engines expands the performance boundaries for epoxy prepreg, meeting the ever growing needs of aerospace OEMs to manufacture lighter, faster and more efficient aircraft.

HexWeb® Acousti-Cap® is Hexcel's broadband noise reducing honeycomb for aircraft engine. NEW Aluminium Acousti-Cap® can withstand temperatures of up to 175° C/350°F during fabrication of the nacelle core blanket and is processable using industry-standard techniques for forming, joining, cutting and machining. Acousti-Cap® is used by GE and Rolls-Royce to save weight and reduce engine noise by up to 30%. The GENX-2B powered the first flight of the new Boeing 747-8 early last year.

Hexcel is a major supplier of prepreg, honeycomb and film adhesive to new Indian helicopter programmes include the Dhruv, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). Composite parts manufactured by HAL for the ALH programme and made with Hexcel's composite materials were displayed, including a Cover Assembly, a Duct Assembly, a Bracket Assembly, Outlet Assembly and Panel Assembly.
