Italian player to invest €3m in polymer plant expansion

ICAP-SIRA is planning a €3m expansion of a polymerisation plant which it recently received as part of its acquisition of Stahl's pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) business. The Italian acrylic polymer producer plans to increase the capacity of the 15 000 tonne/ year polymerisation plant in San Mauro, Italy, within 24 months.

ICAP-SIRA already has a production capacity of 25 000 tonne/year at Parabiago and 75 000 tonne/year at Barberino in Italy, but hopes to increase production at San Mauro to 25 000 tonne/ year to cope with an expected growth in business.

The construction contract has been awarded to Jacobs Engineering, and although the contract value was not given, a spokesperson for ICAP-SIRA said it is usually 7% of the investment cost.

ICAP-SIRA has no intention of increasing the capacity of either its Parabiago or Barberino plants. Massimo Medini, managing director, said: 'The acquisition of this business [Stahl's PSA] together with the San Mauro plant not only reinforces one of our key core businesses but also ensures our continued growth in the rest of Europe."
