Leverkusen -- Lanxess AG will devote even more attention than before to the fields of process engineering and research within the company. For this purpose, the specialty chemicals group last year established an organizational unit entitled "Innovation", with the aim of making a significant contribution to the value-added of the specialty chemicals group. The team, consisting of about 30 people headed by Paul Wagner, serves as a kind of "innovation hub" to centrally coordinate the group's research and development activities. Together with the 13 manufacturing business units and their development departments, they optimize production processes and develop new products and applications in order to be successful in the growth markets of the future and secure the company's long-term success.

The units "Process development", "R&D Services" and "Information services" from the Lanxess subsidiary Aliseca, which remained separate until the end of 2008, as well as "Venture Management" from the Management Board initiative "Innovation R&D" were merged in the organizational unit. With the setting up of the "Project Management Office", a professional project management system was also established to enable the project steering to be carried out centrally.

In addition, two other key functions were added. In the new "Process Innovation" department, the activities for the development of new processes and the integration of new technologies into existing procedures are being strengthened in order to ensure cost leadership. The "Product Innovation" department", on the other hand, is focused on the development of new products, new applications for existing products and product modifications. The search for new products is broadly based. The timescale for bringing new products to market is not only medium-term. The new organizational unit will also focus on long-term product development.

The main tasks of the "Innovation" organizational unit are as follows:

  • Increase efficiency of the production processes worldwide
  • Develop new products, product applications and production processes
  • Identify and introduce new technologies in interdisciplinary teams
  • Cooperate with leading research institutions and introduce a global innovation network Strengthen and improve the innovation culture within the Grou
  • Develop and provide new methods for the acquisition and presentation of information as well as structured archiving of the research results.
