LORD Corporation Announces Growing List of UL Approved Adhesives

Published on 2009-03-20. Author : SpecialChem

LORD Corporation -- a pioneer in specialty structural adhesives, polyurethane coatings as well as electronic, vibration and noise control solutions – has announced a variety of adhesives for sign bonding applications approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

According to Carlos Cruz, Market Manager for LORD Product Assembly Adhesives and Coatings and Industrial Sales Manager for Mexico and Central America, structural adhesives have proven to be a growing alternative to welding and traditional mechanical fasteners for the sign industry. Adhesives are able to provide cost savings versus mechanical joining methods and also provide superior aesthetic properties. However, a third-party testing organization's listing mark is required on most sign assemblies in order to comply with the National Electric Code guidelines and local ordinances. As such, LORD Corporation obtained recognition of several LORD adhesives from UL. The adhesives were tested in accordance with the requirements from the following standards.

  • U.S. Coverage - UL 48, "Electric Signs" and UL746C, "Polymeric Materials for use in Electrical Equipment Evaluations"
  • Canadian Coverage - CAN/CSA - C22.2 No. 207-M89, "Portable and Stationary Electric Signs and Displays"

Following is a list of LORD Corporation's UL Recognized adhesives and their corresponding substrates:

  • LORD 403/19: Used with cold-rolled steel, aluminum, stainless steel (Refer to UL number E225855, MH26317)
