DULUTH, Ga. -- Nordson Corporation announced that it will be showcasing a number of cutting-edge solutions to support packaging sustainability initiatives at Pack Expo, taking place November 9-13 at McCormick Place in Chicago. In addition to featuring processes, equipment and materials that can help packagers achieve both greater sustainability and economic benefits, Nordson will also focus on operational improvements in the areas of application equipment innovation, labeling and aftermarket programs.

While packaging industry sustainability initiatives have generally focused on new designs and a reduction in the overall use of materials, the use of more advanced processes and equipment can also have a substantial impact on packagers' environmental footprint and bottom-line," said Rick Pallante, market development manager - packaging, Nordson. "Seemingly small, incremental improvements in adhesive consumption can have a big impact, both economically and environmentally. Nordson has a long history of designing equipment that maximizes productivity and minimizes waste, including high-performance adhesive dispensing solutions that reinforce our commitment to sustainability."

The theme of sustainability will be underscored with two active demonstrations at Nordson booth S-230. Using Nordson's new SureFoam™ mixing system, ProBlue® Fulfill™ melter, SureBead® pneumatic guns and LogiComm® pattern control system, the first demonstration will show how adhesive foaming - accomplished by mixing an inert gas, such as nitrogen, with the adhesive - can be used to substantially reduce overall adhesive consumption. The second active demonstration - leveraging an all-electric system comprised of Nordson's E-400 and e.dot+™ dispensing guns, fed by an AltaBlue™ TT melter - will show the benefits of stitching adhesive beads to lower adhesive consumption while keeping products properly bonded.

In addition, Pallante will lead a special session titled "Achieving Sustainability through Adhesive Dispensing Technology" on November 11 at 11:50 A.M. The presentation will address a number of new approaches to the application of adhesives in packaging, including trends in substrates and adhesives, application methods and recent advancements, and the use of recycled paperboard in packaging.

Displays and demonstrations in booth S-230 will also include:
  • Labeling solutions: Nordson will feature innovative systems for both roll-fed and magazine-fed (cut and stack) labeling. The PatternJet™ adhesive applicator, with new EcoPattern™ technology, reduces adhesive use in labeling operations by 90 percent, compared to traditional wheel-pot application systems.
  • Service and aftermarket support: Nordson will showcase its commitment to packaging as the world leader in adhesive equipment service and support. The Nordson Experience sustains customers with service, solutions, parts and value, allowing them to maximize productivity and efficiency while minimizing downtime. Nordson is unique among adhesive equipment manufacturers in providing: the largest field service team; global service in 57 countries; 24/7 technical support; online manuals and drawings; over 99 percent of aftermarket parts in stock, with next day delivery; parts ordering online, via customer service, through Nordson's inside sales team and local Nordson representatives. Programs like TrueBlue™ Service packages offer customers managed maintenance options ranging from comprehensive scheduled maintenance to a la carte service or system health checks.

The Nordson Container Coating and Curing Systems group will display cScan+™ film mapping technology. The system measures internal lacquer coatings and exterior varnish coatings on metal and glass beverage and food cans to achieve optimum coating distribution.
