PAAR Physica's rheology system

Published on 2003-05-02. Author : SpecialChem

The Physica Interfacial Rheology System (IRS) opens new horizons for two-dimensional rheology of layers at the air/liquid and the liquid/liquid interface. Typical applications include breakup and coalescence, emulsion processing, and microencapsulation and transport across interfaces.

The IRS consists of a newly developed interfacial rheology cell based on a bi-cone geometry, and a special software analysis package that allows a full hydro-dynamical analysis of the flow field for quantitative determination of the relevant interfacial rheological properties.

Designed as an accessory for the Physica MCR rheometer, the bi-cone design allows the measurements of steady state and transient interfacial shear viscosities, as well as elastic properties of interfacial films and layers.
