Philippe Chartres appointed Managing Director of Arkema’s Thiochemicals business unit

Effective September 1st 2009, Philippe Chartres is being appointed Managing Director of Arkema's Thiochemicals business unit, replacing Arnaud d'Aramon who is retiring.

A graduate from the Paris École Supèrieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles, 60 year old Philippe Chartres began his career in thermoplastics within the technical support department based at the CDF Chimie Mazingarbe plant. In 1983 he was put in charge of the Italian subsidiary of CDF Chimie, before moving to the United States in 1986 to oversee the development of Orkem's business in North America. Back in France in 1991, he was appointed Head of Department at Cray Valley, in charge of hydrocarbon resins initially and later on polyester resins.

He joined Arkema in April 2004 as Managing Director of MLPC International, a subsidiary specializing in the production of additives for rubber and adhesives, and of chemical and agrochemical intermediates.

Thiochemicals are sulfur chemicals and derivatives.
