Price rise for Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) in Europe

Published on 2010-05-21. Author : SpecialChem

As from 1st June 2010, or otherwise as early as contracts allow, Arkema is to increase the price of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in Europe by €230 per tonne.

This new increase comes in the context of high costs of raw materials and growing tightness in the MMA market. It is aimed at restoring profitability to the business at a level compatible with its long-term development.

The PMMA & Methacrylates Business Unit produces and markets methyl methacrylate (MMA), most of which :
  • is converted intoacrylic glass or polymethyl methacrylate in the form of sheet or resins, a material widely used in many industries and a large number of everyday applications, such as the new generation of TV screens, illuminated signs, bathtubs and vehicle rear-light clusters.
  • is also used in paints/emulsions and plastic additives.
