RAMPF Develops RAKU-PUR® to Protect Power Electronics

Published on 2010-09-29. Author : SpecialChem

RAMPF has developed a series of extreme temperature-resistant electro casting resins with highly flame retardant properties to protect power electronics in vehicles from overheating. The two-component polyurethane systems belonging to the RAKU-PUR® brand carry on reliably doing their job at temperatures ranging from -50 to +130 °C. Electro casting resins from RAMPF are extreme temperature resistant.

The demands made on electro casting resins could not be any more diverse. Different densities and viscosity levels on the one hand, extreme temperature variations, protection against overheating, impacts and chemicals on the other. Vehicles in particular are home nowadays to an ever increasing array of electrical and electronic components designed to enhance efficiency, safety, comfort and convenience. All the pointers indicate that this trend is set to continue. The development of electric vehicles is opening up whole new potential for power electronics - a trend which RAMPF Giessharz is ideally equipped to meet. The Grafenberg-based firm has developed a series of products entitled RAKU-PUR® 21-2120, 21-2161 and 21-2176 to provide reliable, effective protection for electric motors, relays, DC/DC converters, sensors and control systems. The 2-component polyurethane (PU)-based casting materials are characterized by extremely good thermal conductivity (0.9 W/m•K) and temperature resistance (-50 °C+130°C).

High flame retardance even with minimal coating thicknesses

Particularly in engine compartments with their extreme levels of exhaust heat and inherent risk of overheating for sensitive components, the use of PU systems from RAMPF can provide the ideal solution. This product series complies with the requirements of fire protection class V0 in accordance with UL94 even with minimal coating thicknesses of just 2 mm. In developing the material, the RAMPF experts dispensed entirely with the use of flame retardants containing halogens. As if that were not enough, the specialists also paid particular attention to ensuring maximum application flexibility. By varying the hardener components used, different mixing viscosity levels of between 1,500 and 4,000 mPa•s can be achieved. The same versatility is offered in terms of pot life, which can be adjusted to the production capacity anywhere between 90 seconds at room temperature and three and a half hours at 50°C.

i Efficient electro casting resins of RAMPF at Electronica 2010

RAMPF presents the extensive range of electro casting resins made of PU, epoxy and silicone. The materials are characterized by properties such as UL-94 VO, F-Class 155 °C and show an extremely good resistance to hydrolysis. Visit them from November 09th till November 12th 2010, Hall B2, Booth 431 at the fair in Munich.
