Research Triangle Park, NC -- In a move designed to better serve its global customers for composite resins, Reichhold has announced plans to expand into the fast-growing Chinese market and will build a grass-roots resin factory near Tianjin. The company has acquired land for the factory in the Tianjin Economic Technological Development Area (TEDA). Phase I of the new plant is scheduled for completion by the end of 2009. This first phase will have resin capacity of 12,000 tons per year and will also be capable of producing vinyl esters, gel coats, and structural adhesives.

"The market for composites in China continues to expand rapidly, particularly the segments of wind energy, closed molding, and pollution abatement," said Reichhold CFO Roger Willis. "Reichhold is committed to serving our global composite customers through the expansion of our presence in China. As part of that commitment, we've opened a new business office and applications lab in Beijing to provide sales and technical support for the new resin plant in Tianjin. In addition, we have appointed Dr. Liusong Yu as country manager for China."

We are very excited about this opportunity to expand our business into China in order to serve our growing base of strategic global customers in addition to the local market. The new manufacturing facility in Tianjin will produce the full range of Reichhold composites offerings in support of our strategy to deliver our products and technology consistently to customers worldwide," said Doug Frey, executive VP, global composites. "While the plant is being constructed, we have contract manufacturing arrangements already in place to support our customers in the interim period," continued Frey.

Reichhold's composites product offering includes unsaturated polyesters, vinyl esters, gel coats, structural adhesives, and flame retardant resins for a wide variety of markets, including general purpose, industrial, construction, marine, wind energy, electrical, transportation, and pollution abatement for coal fired electrical generating stations. In addition to one of the broadest product offerings of any materials supplier in the composites industry, Reichhold also offers comprehensive research and development, technical and market development services.
