Startup of the Arkema Changshu Organic Peroxides Plant in China boosts Arkema's standing as the world's second leading producer

Published on 2005-10-31. Author : SpecialChem

The startup of the Changshu Organic Peroxides plant in the spring of 2005 was a success, on schedule and in line with production specification. With an initial 3,000 tpa capacity, the plant boosts Arkema's overall presence on the Asian continent. Customer service, reactivity, and the refrigerated logistics scheme in place combine to ensure a leading position for Arkema across China, Taiwan and South-East Asia in the organic peroxides market for polymer initiation.

The Changshu Organic Peroxides plant was officially inaugurated on Tuesday October 25, 2005 in the presence of the Chinese authorities and Thierry Le Hénaff, Arkema President and Chief Executive Officer.

The world's second largest manufacturer in this sector, Arkema operates 11 organic peroxides production facilities around the world, in Asia (China, Korea, India and Japan), the United States (Texas and New York), and in Europe (Germany, France and Italy). The technological expertise and the strength of innovation of the American, Indian and European facilities, including the Günzburg plant, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, have played a major role in the success of the Changshu project. The progress achieved related in particular to productivity, upstream for Arkema through the constant improvement of manufacturing processes, and downstream for its customers through the optimization of the products' performance to reduce polymerization cycles.

Arkema's organic peroxides range, marketed under the tradename Luperox®, includes polymerization initiators, crosslinking agents for rubber and polyethylene, and curing agents for unsaturated polyester resins.
