Dow Corning at Labelexpo Asia 2015: Unveils Water-based Emulsion for PS Tapes and more

Published on 2015-12-02. Author : SpecialChem

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, introduced to the Chinese labeling industry here at Labelexpo Asia 2015 (stand #D18), new Syl-Off® EM 7945 Coating, the company’s new water-based silicone emulsion developed for coating of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films. Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating is a more sustainable, safe-handling alternative to solvent-based release coatings, which it can replace without incurring additional costs. The new emulsion also delivers higher performance vs. traditional emulsion release coatings, including faster cure, superior anchorage, lower release force and excellent aesthetics. This advanced new technology, which complements Dow Corning’s industry-leading portfolio of high-performance coatings, is ideally suited for clear-on-clear labeling and electronics applications.

"Dow Corning’s new Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating has been designed to give our Chinese customers the edge they need to succeed in today's fiercely competitive packaging industry," said George Toskey, global market director, Packaging, Dow Corning. "This new product launch also demonstrates Dow Corning’s industry leadership and our commitment to help our customers here in China and around the world stay ahead of changing market demands."

The unparalleled sustainability and safety of Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating make it an attractive choice for customers seeking to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing. Because it is water based, the new emulsion is safer to handle and easier to handle and apply during the logistic and coating processes than traditional solvent-based release coatings. In addition to avoiding or minimizing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with its solvent-free formula, Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating offers the possibility to use very thin coat weights for cost-effectiveness and enhanced sustainability.

Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating’s suitability as a release coating for PET substrates makes it a leading candidate for clear-on-clear labeling for food contact, cosmetic and beverage applications. The new Dow Corning® solution is also a high-performance option for use in pressure-sensitive (PS) tapes that aid in the manufacture of consumer electronics devices, including touchscreens and light emitting diode (LED) displays and liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The use of PS tapes instead of fasteners to hold sensitive electronic components in place before and during the assembly process allows for lighter devices with more functionality.

Compared to other emulsion release coatings, Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating combines good anchorage and fast cure while producing fewer rainbows. It is also easily used with a wide range of coating techniques, including direct and off-set gravure and Rod/Meyer bar. Importantly, it can replace other solvent-based systems without the costs associated with modifying equipment.

Dow Corning’s Syl-Off EM 7945 Coating is available globally.
