Dow Corning to Present Silicone Bonding Products at Glasstec

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, will launch major new additions to its industry-leading portfolio of crystal-clear silicone bonding products at glasstec 2016. Exhibiting in stand B59, Hall 11, the company will also feature its high-strength insulating glass sealant that can boost productivity in the construction of demanding glass façades. Further, to demonstrate the extreme durability of its technology, Dow Corning will provide insights from its 45 years of structural glazing projects, and will share results from a recent European research project and testing of a 25-year-old façade according to the European Technical Approval Guideline (ETAG) 002. Both studies prove that the longevity potential for Dow Corning structural glazing silicones exceeds 50 years.

Presentations at Glasstec

  • Dow Corning experts will give two presentations at the co-located Engineered Transparency international scientific conference. On Sept. 20 at 2:00 p.m., as part of the Special Symposium Glass Technologies session, Industry Scientist Lawrence D. Carbary will present a technical paper titled, "Engineering Design of the Field of Rods Using Adhesive Attachment of Glass with TSSA." The paper will focus on the use of Dow Corning® Transparent Structural Silicone Adhesive (TSSA) to construct a dramatic California building featuring suspended glass tubes.
  • At 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 20, as part of the Façade – Structural Design session, Valérie Hayez (PhD), a Dow Corning application engineer, will speak on "Enabling Crystal Clear Facades." She will discuss the possibilities for glass façade design offered by established silicone technologies as well as a new generation of crystal clear structural silicones.
"Our expanding portfolio of innovative silicone technologies gives architects and builders the tools they need to meet new glazing challenges, from unusual designs and demanding applications to requirements for higher efficiency and productivity," said Markus Plettau, regional market leader, Europe for Dow Corning. "We are applying our vision and expertise in structural glazing to deliver a broad combination of new high-performance solutions, new capabilities and new performance benchmarks. Dow Corning continues to lead the way in addressing the industry’s needs."

Putting the Power of Silicone in the Spotlight at glasstec 2016

Dow Corning will display two new additions to its crystal-clear silicone bonding range that complement Dow Corning TSSA, which is designed for fixed-point exterior glass façades. The first of these is a transparent silicone laminate product for interior applications, such as glass stairs and glass façades. This product provides high strength and greater flexibility than organics, allowing designers to avoid unsightly drilling. The second new product is a hot melt adhesive for bonding and sealing where crystal-clear joints are required. It can also be used for weather sealing.

To support energy efficiency, Dow Corning will also spotlight Dow Corning® 3363 Insulating Glass Sealant, which enables higher productivity thanks to economical joint sizes in highly demanding glass façade applications, such as gas-filled double- and triple-glazed panels. It meets the European standards EN 1279 and ETAG 002, and can deliver up to 50 percent higher design strength vs. Dow Corning structural silicones.

Glasstec attendees will also learn about two European studies that reported a longevity potential of more than 50 years for Dow Corning’s structural glazing silicones. Stringent testing conducted by Germany’s Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing(BAM), and the University of Regensburg in Bavaria, indicates that structural glazing silicones can provide long-term durability to drive a competitive advantage and deliver a higher return on investment.

Dow Corning will also participate in Glass Technology Live, a special show within glasstec that provides a forum for innovative glass and façade applications. To support the Glass Technology Live theme of “glass of the future,” Dow Corning will show a smart glazing application featuring switchable silicone liquid crystal technology.

Dow Corning management and technical experts will be available at the show to offer technology expertise and advice and discuss the company’s capabilities for window design and fabrication. glasstec 2016 will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, Sept. 20-23.
