Techsil Unveils Low Pressure Overmoulding Hotmelt Polyamide in UK

Published on 2012-04-04. Author : SpecialChem

Techsil introduce Macromelt, a low pressure overmoulding hotmelt polyamide. The Macromelt range from Henkel is used extensively in Germany but new to the UK.

Henkel provides an extensive range of thermoplastic hotmelt polyamide materials to meet a variety of specific requirements. Such as cable and strain relief, encapsulation of small pcb's, sensors, switches, terminals, antennas etc.

The key advantages of Macromelt overmoulding, compared to more traditional 2K potting compounds, is its much shorter cycle times (10 to 50 seconds) and it is less aggressive on fragile components thereby reducing wastage. In addition, since there is no longer any need for a separately produced housing, there are savings in total production costs to be achieved in most cases.

The main benefits are:-

  • Low pressure - typically 4 bar
  • Short cycle time - usually 15 seconds cure time
  • Uses less adhesive per application
  • Low temperature for fragile component
  • Water and chemical resistant
  • UL94 V-0 rated
  • Operating temperature -40°C to 140°C
  • Adhesion to PA, PBT, PVC and similar
  • Aluminium mould tooling
