Fillers / Extenders > Kaolins
Kaolin is originally clay and chemically known as hydrated silica-aluminate. When added as a filler to adhesives, it shows good acid resistance and reduces the cost of the formulation. It also controls shrinkage, offers dimensional stability, viscosity modification, and pigmentation to the adhesive. Kaolin is compatible with rubber, vinylic polymers, epoxies, polyamides, polysulphides, polyesters, silicones/silylated polymers. Three types of kaolin used by the adhesives and sealants industry are: air floated, calcined and water washed. Each one of them offers distinctive features that can improve the functionality of the adhesive.
