Polyvinyl alcohols (PVOH) are synthetic and water soluble resins that are produced by the hydrolysis of polyvinyl acetate (PVA). Adhesives based on PVOH show excellent resistance to grease, oils, and solvents but poor resistance to water. The cured adhesive film is impermeable to most of the gases. Being tasteless, odorless and transparent, PVOH adhesives find maximum applications in the food packaging industry. Other applications include tube winding, coatings, textile finishing etc.
