SP-6700 Resin

SP-6700 Resin (Old name: AKROCHEM® P-86) by Akrochem is a cashew nut oil-modified phenol-formaldehyde resin-based tackifier. It does not contain hexa and is the base resin that is used in the manufacture of SP-6600 Resin. It is compatible in all proportions in nitrile rubber and modification of the phenolic resin with a cashew nut oil improves NBR compatibility and dispersibility. It is recommended for use where scorching or procuring is encountered with resins containing hexamethylenetetramine. The use of this resin allows full advantage to be taken of its plasticizing action during processing without fear of pre-curing. The hexa can then be added late in the mixing cycle or on the warm-up mill to make the resin thermosetting upon application of heat in the cure. The hexa used should be a finely ground rubber accelerator grade or a pre-dispersion. SP-6700 Resin with hexa added will harden compounds and improve their tear strength, stiffness and abrasion resistance. It enhances rubber-to-metal bonds as well as fabric adhesion.
